Professional Microsoft Project Training Courses

Microsoft Project Training

One-day, instructor-led Microsoft Project courses at two levels. Attend a scheduled classroom course, train your team online as a virtual group, or have our trainer come to your premises anywhere in the UK.

Our Introduction day teaches the core features organisations rely on, with plenty of hands-on practice so every attendee leaves confident using MS Project. Our Advanced day applies those features to a real work setting, so your team can plan, resource and manage a live project effectively. Most companies combine the two into a two-day course.

Course outlines

Two levels. One day each, or both together.

We teach Microsoft Project at two levels. Each is a complete one-day course and can be attended on its own. Most companies booking in-house training choose the two-day course, running Introduction on day one and Advanced on day two, so the team goes from a blank plan to confidently managing a live project.

Day 1

MS Project IntroductionLevel 1 · No previous experience needed

Practical, face-to-face training on how to plan and schedule projects using Microsoft Project. By the end of the day delegates can create a new project from scratch and work confidently in the MS Project environment.

What you’ll learn

  • Project management concepts and the project lifecycle
  • Finding your way around MS Project: menus, views and calendars
  • Creating a new plan and outlining tasks
  • Scheduling with dates, durations and constraints
  • Linking tasks with dependencies and critical path analysis
  • Gantt charts, networks and planning techniques

Day 2

MS Project AdvancedLevel 2 · Managing real projects

Practical advice and training on managing projects effectively in your workplace. After a short recap of the basics, our Microsoft Certified Trainers show how the advanced features are used to run a real project, including what to do when things don’t go to plan.

What you’ll learn

  • Customising views, tables and filters (working with Global.mpt)
  • Resource management: allocation, scheduling and resolving conflicts
  • Project costings and keeping to budget
  • Baselines, recording progress and “what-if” changes

    • Yes. The advanced training day focuses on project tracking, including resource allocation, budget forecasting,  baseline variance reporting, "What-If" scenario changes and customising global views to keep multi-layered projects operating smoothly.

    • For inhouse group sessions, our trainers can typically integrate elements of your current project into the training. This adds real-world context and added benefit to the straining, allowing your team to problem-solve actual work challenges.
